Thanks to its remarkable technical properties, such as its hardness and complete resistance to scratches, ceramic has become an approved basic material in the watch industry. Bell & Ross uses technical materials to create watches in its urban line in its favorite black color. Ceramics now decorate three stunning models of the BR 05, a precious collection from Bell & Ross.

Technical material for innovative watches
For Bell & Ross, creating ceramic watches has always seemed like a natural fit. Before it rose to prominence in the 1980s and took over the watch industry to become a preferred modern material, technical ceramics were already an integral part of the aviation and aerospace industries. Highly resistant yet lightweight, it was initially used mainly to make nose cones and heat shields for spacecraft – a professional use that is entirely in keeping with the brand's inspirations. For Bell & Ross, reinterpreting aircraft dashboards and turning them into watches is central to their designs.

As a high-tech material, working with ceramic is no easy task. Centrifugation, or the process of hardening and melting the paste, requires mixing a mixture of zirconium oxide powder and polymer binders to become glassy at a very high temperature (generally around 1450°C). This complex process is essential to creating strong ceramic watches: to make the material homogeneous, the process must be perfectly mastered. Since launching its first ceramic watches, the BR 01 Ceramic in 2011, Bell & Ross has paid great attention to the precision of the manufacturing process. A whole series of experiences were used to design the new BR 05 ceramic watch.

Stable material for scratch resistant watches

Ceramic is a very durable and rust-resistant material, and it is completely scratch-resistant. Watches made from this material stand the test of time. Ceramic is considered one of the hardest materials in the world, after diamond, and it is also lighter than steel. It adapts to the body's temperature upon contact with the skin, and as well as being hypoallergenic, this soft-touch material is particularly pleasant to wear. Thanks to this combination of technical and aesthetic characteristics, it cannot fail to have a strong appeal for fans of practical and contemporary watches. Boasting exceptionally resistant ceramic properties, the three new BR 05 watches from Bell & Ross are positioning themselves as tool watches that can be worn in all conditions and for all occasions.

Material that has been fully dyed for intense black hours

The new BR 05 watches in black ceramic have an additional advantage: a captivating aesthetic. Fully pigmented material, it acquires a lasting shine that no scratch will affect the BR 05 Black Ceramic and BR 05 Skeleton Black Ceramic watch cases, with a precious satin-polished finish. As for the BR 05 Skeleton Black Lum Ceramic case and bracelet, the matte, sandblasted ceramic surface plays with the ephemeral effects of the gorgeous material, revealing an assertive, graphic sporty look. While it is a common cliché that “black is not a color,” contemporary art lovers and aviation experts alike will recognize that this gorgeous color is at once timeless, sporty and elegant. Black is used on the gauges and dials on aircraft instrument panels, and combined with white on the hands and indexes of Bell & Ross watches, black is the distinctive color of the brand's instrument watches. The new BR 05 ceramic watches do not deviate from this functional approach. The skeletonized version in matte ceramic features indexes filled with a green luminescent material to improve readability at night, when the case and bracelet have a subtle quality. With a sapphire crystal caseback, the BR 05 ceramic watches also reveal the black ruthenium finish of their automatic mechanical movement, caliber BR-CAL.321, with a 54-hour power reserve.

Exceptional automatic movement

The three BR 05 ceramic models reveal the ruthenium finish of their self-winding mechanical movements and the BR-CAL.321-1 and BR-CAL.322-1 calibers with a 54-hour power reserve thanks to their sapphire back.

41mm ceramic watch case

Another captivating visual effect is that black not only attracts light and draws attention, but also makes objects appear smaller. To compensate for this visual impact and keep the pieces standing out with all their presence and power, the creative director and co-founder of Bell & Ross, Bruno Belamich, chose to increase the dimensions slightly, introducing for the first time the BR 05 Auto with a diameter of 41 mm.

Ceramic bracelet integrated into the case

The BR 05 collection maintains the signature design guideline The Circle Within with a contemporary finish. Driven by contemporary elegance, since their launch in 2019, the watches from the BR 05 collection have gained a reputation as urban and versatile pieces. These three new black ceramic editions reflect the same philosophy and allow the BR 05 collection to continue to grow. One of the strong points of this stylish watch is the integrated bracelet. “The bracelet is integrated into the case in line with the brand codes, giving another dimension to the watch: the first link is part of the case. This type of design has been an industry standard since the XNUMXs; “When adopted by Bell & Ross, the result was a watch that was compact, harmonious and comfortable at the same time,” confirms Bruno Bellamic, Creative Director and Co-Founder of Bell & Ross.

Three integrated models

The new Bell & Ross black ceramic watch collection comprises three distinct models: two to become part of the brand's permanent collections, and the third to come in a limited edition of 500 pieces.
The satin-brushed finish of the BR 05 Black Ceramic watch features a three-hand and glossy black radial dial with rhodium-plated skeletonized hands and white luminescent tips, available with an integrated ceramic bracelet or rubber strap.

The smoothly polished BR 05 Skeleton Black Ceramic watch features a colored translucent enamel dial, revealing a self-winding mechanical movement BR-CAL.321 with a black ruthenium finish.

Finally, the softly polished, matte dial of the BR 05 Skeleton Black Lum is made of smoked black sapphire crystal, and the background of the skeletonized hands is rhodium-plated and decorated with a high-gloss green luminescent material. The latest edition is particularly exclusive, produced in a limited series of only 500 pieces, sold with an integrated matte black ceramic bracelet.
This innovation represented a new challenge for the Bell & Ross team, debuting the BR 05 ceramic case and bracelet, a bold gesture from both a technical and aesthetic standpoint.
In the BR 05 collection, each of the three distinctive watches represents a milestone in its own right.
