He pointed out that there is common general advice to drink 8 cups of water a day, which he believes is not wrong, but it needs some modifications.

She pointed out that research has certainly developed over time, and therefore recommendations regarding the amounts of water that should be consumed differ according to age, gender, and activity level.

Scott also expressed her belief that the amount of water that each individual should consume depends on life circumstances as well. For example, if there is a person who lives in a hot and humid climate, or practices a lot of physical activity, or if there is a pregnant woman, or If you are breastfeeding your child, they may need a larger amount of water daily than the average adult, and it is necessary to consult a doctor regarding the appropriate amount to drink daily.

She explained that the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine recommends an average daily consumption of water of about 3.5 liters for men and about 2.5 liters for women, and the rest of the amount can be supplemented with food.

Most importantly, the doctor stressed that drinking too much water may lead to a condition called hyponatremia.

She added that it is a rare disease, but it occurs when the amount of water in the diet overwhelms the kidneys, so they are unable to keep up with the natural filtration rate.

The sodium content in the blood then becomes dangerously low and leads to cell swelling.

A person can also be exposed to some health conditions such as kidney failure and congestive heart failure, which can affect some athletes if they do not replace their electrolytes after exercising.

But for most, the biggest issue is not getting enough water, explaining that the best indicator will be the color of the urine. If the color of the toilet water is pale yellow or transparent after urination, this means that the color is golden. Dark yellow or amber urine is a sign that the body needs fluids.

Headaches, migraines, poor sleep, constipation, dizziness, and feeling confused can also be symptoms of dehydration.

It is noteworthy that Scott suggested some useful tips to encourage drinking water, such as trying adding slices of fruit to add flavor to it.

You can also use smaller water bottles and refill them instead of filling a large jug all day, which can be difficult to overcome.

She also recommends dividing the day into equal periods and setting a small goal for each period, maintaining a constant flow of water instead of trying to swallow the recommended amount all at once.
